The Pisgah varsity girls basketball team shook off a tough final week of the regular season with an impressive victory to begin the postseason.
The top-seeded and Class 3A No. 2-ranked Eagles scored 40 points in the first quarter and 63 points in the first half on the way to defeating fourth-seeded Geraldine 95-53 in the 3A Area 15 Tournament semifinals Monday night at Pisgah High School.
Pisgah (25-3), which secured a sub-regional berth, advanced to play third-seeded Sylvania in the area finals in the area finals Thursday at 6 p.m. at PHS. The game was originally scheduled for tonight but was postponed because of weather concerns.
Sylvania defeated second-seeded Plainview 69-48 in Monday's other semifinal.
Against Geraldine, Pisgah raced in front 40-18 after one quarter and led 63-29 at halftime. The Eagles were in front 83-50 after three quarters.
Layla Hatfield and Chloe Womack scored 24 points each for the Eagles while Molly Heard netted 15 and Madison Myers recorded 10 points and seven assists. Pisgah also got six points from Kennedy Barron, five from Kallie Tinker and four from Anna Young.
