Taking on a team that hasn’t lost a meet in 30 years in their home pool with only half of your own team isn’t a recipe for success, but in spite of these handicaps, SSA had a respectable showing Thursday night against the Madison Dolphins.

SSA did not have a single intact “A” relay squad for this meet, so the relay races predictably went for the home team.  However, Scottsboro did surprisingly well in the individual events.

Maggie Ella Robbins and Kyle Vosen remained undefeated for the summer with a sweep of their three individual events. Robbins took first in the 13-14 Girls 50-yard Freestyle, 50 Fly and 100 Individual Medley while Vosen placed first in the 15-18 Boys 50 Breaststroke, 50 Fly and 100 IM.

Ryder Linville, Lily Turlington, Cullen Roberts and Bethany Dugan each won two races.  Linville won the 8-Under Boys 25 Freestyle and 25 Back, Turlington came out on top in the 9-10 Girls 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke and Roberts took first in the 11-12 Boys 50 Fly and 100 Freestyle. Dugan was victorious in the 15-18 Girls 50 Breaststroke and 100 IM, with only a faulty start pad in the 50 Backstroke, keeping her from a sweep of her own.

Also winners on Thursday were Eli Armour (6-Under Boys 25 Freestyle) and Arlen Parr (9-10 Boys 50 Backstroke).

Scoring points for SSA with top-3 finishes were Shane Miley Edwards, Cora White, Eli Glass, Dylan Phillips, Morelia Calderon-Diaz, Nina Gardner, Linda Rudder, Joseph Gardner, Ayden Mashburn, Amelia Armour, Brady Peek, Harrison Stone, Kimberly Calderon-Diaz, Shelton Linville, Diana Swain, Noah Linville, Gabe Lyle, Abby Ray, Olyvia Stone, Tanner Gossett, Tony Pereira, Staton Robbins and Julia Arnold.

Also swimming well were Wes Colus, Ady Benson, Morgan Guttridge, Taylor Guttridge, Holder Benson, Les White, Alice Merck, Luke Armour, Jake Benson, Quent Cox, Aiden Goggans, Will Porch, Ansel Goggans, Troy Reichle, Reese Edwards, Zac Cushman, Rebekah Riddle, Lily Robertson, Abram Peek and Creed Wooden.

Scottsboro has a tough upcoming stretch of three straight road meets beginning Monday with a make-up contest at Albertville, followed by a dogfight in Boaz tonight.
