The Scottsboro high school fishing program’s debut went extremely well on Saturday.

The fishing duo of Barclay Butler and Connor McLaughlin won the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association’s District 2 pre-qualifier on Lake Guntersville out of Goose Pond Colony.

Butler and McLaughlin, whose boat captain was Matt McLaughlin, won the tournament with total of 17.94 pounds. They also won the big fish award with 5.52 pounds.

Scottsboro’s Kolby Clark and Tanner Barclay, whose boat captain was Clay Barclay, finished fifth with total of 7.48 pounds.

Scottsboro High School announced last spring it was forming a fishing program beginning with the 2018-19 school year. In all, 20 Scottsboro anglers (10 boats) in grades 7-12 finished in the program’s first tournament.
