The Douglas Eagles used a fast start to post a Homecoming win over Woodville Friday night.

Douglas (2-0) bolted to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and went on for a 42-8 win over the Panthers.

The game was Class 1A Woodville’s first ever matchup with a 5A team.

The matchup was added to the schedule on Tuesday after Douglas’ previous opponent, Brindlee Mountain, had to cancel because of COVID-19 issues. Woodville previously had an open week scheduled.

Sam Peek scored Woodville’s lone touchdown and added the two-point conversion.

Peek ran for 29 yards on eight carries and also passed for 17 yards as Bradley Little had one catch for nine yards and Archer Justin had eight. Nathan Gardner had 10 yards rushing.

Peek led the Panthers with three tackles each.

Woodville (0-2) starts Class 1A Region 7 play next week against Coosa Christian. It’s the home opener for the Panthers.
