Despite losing its fall season-opening match, the now two-year-old Northeast Alabama Community men’s golf team took some good news from its match with Georgiat Northwestern Technical College.

NACC shot a 309, its lowest 18-hole team score, in a five-stroke loss to Georgia Northwestern at Dogwood Hills Golf Resort and Gardens in Flat Rock.

“We’re getting better,” said NACC head coach Darrell Kirk, adding that he’s “looking forward to the tournaments coming up.”

Sophomore  Corey Wheeler led the Mustangs effort with an even-par 72. NACC also got a 6-over par 78 from David Stewart, a 7-over 79 from Ethan Everett and an 8-over 80 from John Austin Dolberry to round out its team score. Brody Rickels added an 83 while Jake Jenkins shot a 91 and Aaron Shavers shot a 92.

Next up for NACC men’s is the Wallace State Invitational on Sept. 9-11. The Mustangs then play a rematch with Georgia Northwestern at the Lafayette (Georgia) Golf Course.
