The Pisgah volleyball team is headed back to Huntsville.
For the second time in program history, the Eagles will play in the North Super Regional thanks to a runner-up finish in the Class 3A Area 15 Tournament on Monday. Second-seeded Pisgah defeated third-seeded Plainview 25-22, 29-27, 25-21 to earn the regional berth.
“It’s great to get there, but I hope we’re not satisfied,” said Pisgah head coach Carey Ellison. “I hope getting there is not the ultimate goal.”
Pisgah (19-7) plays Class 3A Area 13 champion Holly Pond at the Von Braun Center’s Concert Hall in an opening-round match Thursday at 9 a.m. The winner plays a second-round match at 3:30 p.m. against either Fultondale or Glencoe. The top-four teams in the 16-team super regional advance to next week’s state tournament at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Annie Hughes recorded 19 kills and 13 service points during Pisgah’s win over Plainview. Molly Heard recorded 15 kills and five blocks — all of them resulted in Pisgah points — while Bella Bobo and Hannah Duncan had 12 assists and 18 service points each.
In the area championship match, top-seeded and No. 5-ranked Geraldine swept the Eagles by a score of 25-15, 25-15, 25-8.
Hughes finished with seven kills and Heard had five while Bobo had five assists and 10 service points. Kaci McLaughlin scored 10 service points while Duncan tallied five assists.
