The North Sand Mountain volleyball team opened its season on Monday with a 3-1 victory over Richard Hardy (Tennessee).

The Bison gave new head coach Jeremiah Haynes a winning debut against the Hawks. 

The teams split the first two sets — NSM won the first set 25-22 and Richard Hardy won the second 25-19 — before NSM took the final two sets 25-13, 25-13.

On Tuesday, NSM (1-2) dropped a pair of matches to Sylvania and Class 3A No. 9-ranked Geraldine in a tri-match at Sylvania. NSM 25-22, 25-7 to Sylvania 25-22, 25-7 and 25-14, 25-14 to Geraldine.

North Jackson sweeps Valley Head — At Valley Head, the Chiefs swept the host team in a best-of-five match on Tuesday.

North Jackson (1-0) won 25-18, 25-20 and 25-2. 

Destry Lambert served 14 consecutive aces during North Jackson’s third set win. 

Pisgah drops matches to Elkmont, state-ranked Westminster Christian, Elkmont — At Huntsville, the Eagles opened the 2021 season by suffering a pair of setbacks during a tri-match at Westminster Christian School on Tuesday.

Pisgah (0-2) fell 25-9, 25-16 to Class 4A No. 8-ranked Westminster Christian and 26-24, 25-19 to Elkmont. 

Molly Heard totaled five kills, five blocks, two digs and two aces during the Eagles’ two matches while Madeline Flammia had two aces and five digs. Pisgah also got two blocks from Claudia Barron, an ace and two digs from Karlee Holcomb and a block from Kaitlin Stephens. 

Scottsboro falls to Fyffe — At Scottsboro, the visiting Class 3A No. 7-ranked Red Devils swept a best-of-five match to spoil the Wildcats’ home opener on Thursday.

Fyffe (3-0) defeated Scottsboro (0-3) three sets to none, winning 25-7, 25-9, 25-15.

Dade County (Ga.) downs Pisgah — At Trenton, Georgia, host Dade County took the final two sets of the match to defeat the Eagles 3-1 on Thursday.

After the Wolverines won the first set 25-16, Pisgah tied the match by winning the second set 25-23. But Dade County took the next two sets 25-21 and 25-22 to win the match.

Molly Heard finished with five kills, seven blocks, one ace and one dig for the Eagles while Madeline Flammia had five aces and two digs and Kat Patton had two aces and three blocks. Pisgah (0-3) also got two aces from Rylee Smith and one ace and one block each from Karlee Holcomb and Kaitlyn Stephens.
