NORTH JACKSON chiefs vs. CURRY yellow jackets

› What: Class 4A first-round playoff game

› When: Friday, 7 p.m.

› Where: R.D. Hicks Stadium, Stevenson

› Series record: North Jackson leads 1-0

› Last season: Did not play

› Team records: North Jackson (10-0); Curry (5-5)

› Last week: North Jackson defeated Arab 41-22; Curry lost to Carbon Hill 21-20

› Storylines: It's the first meeting between the teams since a Class 4A first-round playoff game in 2002 that North Jackson won 38-7...North Jackson is averaging 61.7 points per game. The Chiefs set the new AHSAA regular-season scoring record...Curry, the No. 4 seed from Class 4A Region 5, is averaging 15.8 points per game and allowing 19.8...North Jackson running back Lee Witherspoon set the AHSAA single-season touchdowns record (54) after scoring five last week against Arab. Witherspoon needs two more touchdowns to set the AHSAA single-season rushing touchdown record...The North Jackson-Curry winner plays the Hokes Bluff-Central-Florence winner in the second round. If it advances, North Jackson would host Hokes Bluff and but travel to Central-Florence.

› When: Friday, 7 p.m.

› Where: Winfred E. Jackson Stadium, Birmingham

› Series record: First meeting

› Last season: Did not play

› Team records: Pisgah (4-6); Midfield (8-1)

› Last week: Pisgah lost to NSM 40-6; Midfield defeated Woodlawn 30-17

› Storylines: It's the first meeting between the schools...Pisgah is making its first playoff appearance since 2014 and its 22nd all-time... Luke Pruitt is the third coach to lead Pisgah to the playoffs in his first season with the team. The others were Freddie Tidmore (1987) and Heath Kirby (2002) Midfield, the Class 3A Region 5 No. 2 seed, is enjoying its best season since 2012. The Patriots are averaging 32.8 points per game and allowing 12.8...Midfield's lone loss was a 16-14 setback to Fultondale...The Pisgah-Midfield winner plays the Weaver-Westminster Christian winner in the second round. If it advances, Pisgah would host Westminster Christian and travel to Weaver.

NORTH SAND MOUNTAIN bison at RANBURNE bulldogs

› What: Class 2A first-round playoff game

› When: Friday, 7 p.m.

› Where: Ranburne Stadium

› Series record: First meeting

› Last season: Did not play

› Team records: NSM (8-2); Ranburne (8-2) 

› Last week: NSM defeated Pisgah 40-6; Ranburne defeated White Plains 35-20

› Storylines: It's the first meeting between the schools...NSM is making its fourth straight playoff appearance and seven of the last eight seasons...NSM is averaging 39.5 points per game, which is on pace to set a new single-season school scoring record. Meanwhile, the defense is allowing only 13.9, which is second only to the 2011 NSM defense...Ranburne, the No. 2 seed from Class 2A Region 5, is averaging 30.7 points per game and allowing 15.1...The Bulldogs are making their fifth playoff apperance in the past six seasons...The NSM-Ranburne winner plays the Addison-Sulligent winner in the second round. If it advances, NSM would host Addison but travel to Sulligent.
