“We are so excited to kick off the season with our annual Roll Tide BBQ,” said Jackson County Bama Club president Rick Roden. “All proceeds go to scholarships for Jackson County students to attend the university. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy an evening with lots of Bama fans and hear from John Parker about the upcoming season.”

Wilson was Alabama’s starting quarterback from 2006-08 and later played in the NFL for four seasons.

Wilson, who is entering his second season with the Alabama Football Radio Crew, is making his second Roll Tide BBQ appearance. Wilson was also the guest speaker at the event in 2015 and shared the details of his first meeting with Nick Saban after Saban was named Alabama’s head coach in January 2007. Upon introducing himself, Wilson told Saban he was excited to play for the new coach.

“(Saban) said ‘I’m going to run your (rear end) off tomorrow. We'll see if you’re still excited then,’” Wilson recalled Saban saying in reference to the start of his conditioning program known as The Fourth Quarter, inciting laughter from the 2015 attendees.

The event raises money for scholarships for Jackson County students to attend UA. There will be live and silent auctions and door prizes will be awarded. Contact Roden for more information at or 256-628-1212.
