The Scottsboro girls and boys swimming teams posted solid finishes in their second meet of the season.

The SHS boys finished fourth while the SHS girls were sixth in the Bob Jones Invitational Tuesday night.

The Wildcats were the highest finishing Class 5A school in the varsity boys division and the second highest finishing 5A school (behind fourth-place SJPII-Catholic) in the varsity girls division.

“This meet we were able to look more closely at details and in return target needed techniques in practice,” Scottsboro head coach Shalyn Benson said. “We still saw several personal records achieved as well.” 

Kyle Vosen won a pair of varsity boys races. He won the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:47.51 and the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:02.04. Vosen also teamed up with Ben Gossett, Tony Pereira and John Dalton Sanders for a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:54.79) and with Gossett, Pereira and Tanner Gossett for a fourth-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Pereira had a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.13) and the 100 Freestyle (53.29) while Sanders, Tanner Gossett, Cole Bellomy and Will Rogers teamed up for a sixth-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay (4:54.54). Ben Gossett posted a ninth-place finish in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.13) and a 10th-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley (2:22.74) for Scottsboro while Sanders had a 10th-place finish (1:25.91) and Bellomy a 12th-place finish (1:29.94) in the 100 Backstroke. Rogers finished 14th (1:22.35), Tanner Gossett 22nd (1:35.26) and Jake Vance 25th (2:01.54) in the 100 Backstroke while Sanders was 20th in the 100 Freestyle. Rogers finished 28th (29.76 seconds), Bellomy 31st (31.36), Tanner Gossett 33rd (32.37) and Vance (38.75).

In the varsity girls division, Scottsboro’s best finish was a sixth-place effort in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. Bailey McLaughlin, Sarah Vance, Maddy Childress and Cheyenne Vincent teamed up for a time of 5:05.17. Jessica Vincent, Claire MeGehee, Katharyn Sanders and Olyvia Stone teamed up for a seventh-place finish (2:08.32) in the 200 Medley Relay while Stone, MeGehee, Jessica Vincent and Katharyn Sanders teamed up for a seventh-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:53.49).

Stone finish seventh in the 500 Freestyle (6:06.16) and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley (2:53.87) and Sanders finished eighth in the 100 Backstroke (1:11.46) and ninth in the 100 Freestyle (1:00.35) while MeGehee was 10th in the 100 Butterfly (1:12.57), Cheyenne Vincent was 10th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:23.06) and Jessica Vincent 11th in the 100 Freestyle (1:01.75) and 14th in the 50 Freestyle (28.56). 

Paige Megehee finished 17th (1:25.31) and Bailey McLaughlin 18th (1:25.57) in the 100 Backstroke and Maddy Childress was 17th (1:41.26) in the 100 Breaststroke while Claire MeGehee was 25th (31.00), Sarah Vance was 36th (33.90) and McLaughlin 39th (34.63) in the 50 Freestyle. Kaitlin Rossmeier finished 24th (1:10.49), Childress 27th (1:13.53), Paige MeGehee 34th (1:19.54) and Sarah Vance 35th (1:19.59).
