Swimming strong

Claire Megehee (left) helped the Scottsboro girls swim team post an 11th-place finish in the North Alabama Swim Championships in Huntsville last Saturday. Megehee was part of three Top-25 finishes during the meet.

 

The Scottsboro swim teams posted solid finishes in the North Alabama Swim Championships on Saturday.

Scottsboro placed sixth in the boys standings with 124 points — the five teams above the Class 5A Wildcats were 7A teams — and 11th in the girls standings with 74 points.

Kyle Vosen led the SHS boys with a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard Individual Medley (1:57.88) and 100-yard Breaststroke (1:01.67). Vosen also teamed up with Tony Pereira, John Dalton Sanders and Ben Gossett for a sixth-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:49.76) and a seventh-place finish in the 200- Medley Relay (1:54.94).

Pereira also had a pair of Top-10 finishes in individual races, placing fourth in the 50 Freestyle (24.09) and seventh in the 100 Butterfly (58.86). Gossett recorded a 15th-place finish in the 200 IM (2:22.96) and a 21st-place finish in the 100 Freestyle (1:35.97) while Cole Bellomy had a 17th-place finish in the 200 Freestyle (2:51.11) and a 35th-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:30.36).

Sanders finished 22nd in the 100 Backstroke (1:20.40) and 67th in the 50 Freestyle (29.46) while Will Rogers was 23rd in the 100 Breaststroke (1:21.08) and 61st in the 50 Freestyle (29.92). Tanner Gossett finished 30th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:25.99) while Jake Vance was 69th in the 100 Freestyle (1:35.97) and 103rd in the 50 Freestyle (39.77).

Vance, Bellomy, Rogers and Tanner Gossett teamed up for a 20th-place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay (2:11.35).

Kathryn Sanders had the best finish for the Scottsboro girls, placing ninth in the 50 Freestyle (26.70). She also finished 12th in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.52) and teamed up with Jessica Vincent, Olyvia Stone and Cheyenne Vincent for a sixth-place finish (4:08.56) in the 400 Freestyle Relay and with Jessica Vincent, Olyvia Stone and Claire Megehee for a 12th-place finish (2:11.43) in the 200 Medley Relay.

Stone finished 15th in the 200 IM (2:34.36) and the 500 Freestyle (6:00.01) while Cheyenne Vincent was 16th in the 200 Freestyle (2:18.61) and 20th in the 100 Breaststroke (1:22.77), Claire Megehee 19th in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:12.22) and Jessica Vincent 21st in the 200 Freestyle (2:26.30) and 22nd in the 100 Freestyle (1:04.49). 

Kaitlin Rossmeier finished 23rd in the 500 Freestyle (7:02.78) and Paige Megehee was 31st (1:24.56) and Bailey McLaughlin 32nd (1:23.84) in the 100 Backstroke while Maddy Childress was 38th in the 100 Backstroke (1:36.73). Childress finished 76th (32.40), Rossmeier 77th (32.46), Sarah Vance 92nd (33.90) and McLaughlin 95th (34.88) in the 50 Freestyle.

Childress, Rossmeier, Claire Megehee and Cheyenne Vincent teamed up for a 14th-place finish (2:03.53).
