The Scottsboro girls golf team’s season came to a close Tuesday.
The Wildcats finished fifth in the Class 4A-5A Girls Golf North 2 Sub-state Tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Silver Lakes Course in Glencoe.
White Plains (256) won the sub-state tournament title and along with runner-up Randolph (265) qualified for next week’s state tournament. Arab (284) and Russellville (292) and Scottsboro (309) rounded out the top-five.
Braylee Childress led Scottsboro with a 99 and Lilli Evans shot a 104 while Maddy Childress and Kassidy Cunningham both shot a 106. Competing as an individual, Ally Hambrick shot a 309.
“We had a very successful season especially considering how young we are,” said Scottsboro head coach Jonathan Haynes. “The future of the program looks great with all the young talent we have coming up.”
NSM finishes third at North 2 Sub-state Tournament — At Silver Lakes in Glencoe, North Sand Mountain just missed qualifying for the Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament on Monday.
The top-two finishers advanced. NSM finished third (392), 10 shots back of runner-up Glencoe. Pleasant Valley won the sub-state title (375).
Hunter Vest led the Bison with an 86 — he was tied for sixth among individual scores — while Jordan Moon shot a 94, Noah Higdon a 104, Tanner Stone a 108 and Luke Maples a 112.
Pisgah’s Aaron Shavers just missed qualifying for state as an individual, finishing fourth in the individual standings with an 84.
Clements’ Matt Smith shot a 1-under par 71 and was the No. 1 individual qualifier and medalist for the tournament. Lauderdale County’s Josh Daracott also qualified as an individual after shooting a 6-over 77.
